Contested history Consensus: The accepted account is that Dr. Carl Weiss shot Long in a capitol corridor on 8 September 1935 and was immediately killed by Long's bodyguards.
Carl Weiss shot Long Established
Witnesses described Weiss firing, and a 1992 Louisiana State Police review of the recovered evidence backed that account.
A bodyguard's stray bullet killed Long Minority view
Weiss's family and some researchers argue he only struck Long; no autopsy was done, which leaves room for the theory.
